Roommates, teammates, classmates, friends. Born with a backpack and more energy than a dozen kids in a bouncy house. We met at Northern Michigan University, in Marquette, Michigan, during our rugby practice. Little did we know that practice would lead us to the lifelong friendship we've formed over the past couple years. Lauren and Joy are both majoring in Biology; Joy with an emphasis on Ecology and Lauren with an emphasis in Physiology. I'm the camera junky behind the team, studying Digital Cinema. Last summer we split up, Joy moved out to Idaho to fight wildfires while Lauren and I stayed in Marquette. I worked as a kayak guide on Lake Superior and Lauren worked in a nursing home. We've traveled a lot of miles together, covering just about every region of the US, whether it be in search of the best trail to hike, mountain to climb, or raddest rugby tournament to play in. Although we have a little less than 3 months before we potentially part ways for good, we know our adventures will never cease. We're all just here to enjoy the ride.
A brief history of joy_the_human_not_the_feeling:
I was born 22 years ago and was raised in Northern Michigan by a couple of pretty cool cats. Summers are my favorite season because they remind me of catching frogs in the pond across the street and wrecking havoc on the neighborhood until the streetlights came on. I was lucky enough to grow up 5 minutes from the greatest lake in the world which fostered a lifelong love of water. In high school I fell in love with avocados and trees (and avocado trees). In college I found rugby, rock climbing, brook trout and wildland firefighting.
A few fun facts about me
1.When I grow up I want to be a farmer in Wyoming.
2. I love doing and trying new things- except for ketchup, I do not like ketchup
3. If you are looking for a popular culture trivia partner, keep looking- I basically live 2 years behind trends
My name is Lauren & I’m from Warren, Michigan. I’ve attended Northern Michigan University getting a degree in Biology and now on my way to getting into nursing. I have a strong love for nature, travel, and baby pigs. My goal is to become a traveling nurse and have a pet pig.
College has helped me discover my love for the outdoors with so many hiking trails right outside the front door in Marquette and having Lake Superior just a few blocks away. If I’m not outside you can probably find me eating, playing rugby, or hanging with my roommates on the couch.
As the great American Author Dr. Seuss once wrote, "I am Sam, Sam I am". But most people call me Sam O.
Rugby player, kayak guide, lover of all things yellow & the outdoors. You can usually find me slacklining in the trees, biking the streets of Marquette, or scuba diving under the surface of Lake Superior.
Random facts that will most likely further our friendship:
I love breakfast.
I'm left handed.
I'd choose 80s music over everything else.
I'm "the art kid", not to be confused with my former middle school title, "the horse girl".
There's a 9 out of 10 chance you will read this and think, "she's not as cool as she's making herself sound" and you are most certainly correct.
