We are team New Éire from Dublin City University, Ireland. The mantra behind our team and meaning behind our name is that we are the new, evolving and ever-changing, modern Éire (Irish for Ireland). Although we as individuals come from completely diverse backgrounds, we are all studying in DCU's Business School and developing and growing personally in the eachothers company. We first met each other through our deep involvement with the Clubs and Societies in DCU which demonstrates our active lifestyle and proactive attitude. As a team we manage to combine varied knowledge and experiences together to make it happen.
Elena was born in Lithuania, but has been living in Ireland for the past 7 years. She moved here with no English and is now studying International Business with German making it her 5th spoken and written language. Personally she has fostered a social media following where she now works with many renowned brands to promote their products to her audience through images and videos. Elena is adventurous and is always seeking new challenges. It is fair to say not too many 19 year old girls decide to spend weeks of their summer exploring Nigeria without any security to explore the country and their culture. Elena goes above and beyond the call of duty to reach her targets and is a highly valued team member at the Front Office of the Radisson Blu Royal. Brendan is a passionate traveller and has been on over 135 flights over the past two years. He is the former Chairperson of the Enterprise Society (ESOC) and spearheaded their double in membership to become the largest society ever in DCU. Brendan has always been a team player as a young chap in outback county Kilkenny he was born with a hurley in his hand and moved on to represent his county at underage level. He has worked in one of Ireland’s leading advertising agencies and spent much of last summer touring around Albania and Montenegro. To him, a stranger is just a friend that he hasn't met yet. DCU is the place that changed him and where he consciously made a decision to grab destiny by the neck and make it happen for himself. Brandon moved from Cameroon to Cork when he was less than ten years old. He has seized the opportunities presented to him by his family and was the first African man to run the 400 metres competition for Ireland. With 9 national titles so far, his eyes are fixed on Tokyo 2020. Behind the sporty charming guy is a shrewd businessman, He grew up a stones throw from the Blarney Stone and anyone that knows him is aware of his habit of talking, as well as running, for Ireland!
DCU has brought all three of us together as a synergetic team and now we want to spread good vibes around Europe. We are all huge fans of Red Bull as brand and would be honoured to represent Ireland on the international level. We made it this far through different circles, circumstances and decisions. We are making it each and every day in our own niches but also as a trio of friends. In April at the finish line in Amsterdam we will hug and laugh and smile at how me made it - with the wink of an eye and some old fashioned Irish charm.
Hi I’m Brandon Arrey. A 22 year old from Ireland and currently studying a masters in finance. I’m a 400m Irish athlete that one day aspires to be in the Olympics. I’m sporty, competitive and also very gregarious, all the great combinations you need for this trip. Catch my and my team and follow our journey as we travelling through Europe.
I am 22 years old from the thriving metropolis of rural Kilkenny in the South East of Ireland, where children are born with what is called a hurley in one hand (see our video). From an early age I have had an absolute fervour for travelling and pushing myself outside my comfort zone. By the end of the year I will have been to over 50 countries. I am a keen running enthusiast and run 5km a day. I am absolutely pumped for the adventure that Can You Make It is shaping up to be.
I am originally from Lithuania, but have been walking the streets of Dublin for over 6 years now. I am a determined and hardworking individual and will always go out of my way to reach my set targets. Currently I am studying International Business and German Language in DCU and am also working almost full time while still trying to keep up with the influencing on social media with several brands. I love travelling and not just to regular holiday destinations but somewhere distinct and adventurous! Recently I traveled around the country of Nigeria and next on the list is Brazil and perhaps Dubai for some lovely scenery. I couldn’t be more delighted to be chosen as a participant to complete CYMI as this is going to be an experience of a lifetime!
